James Alan Aikins, 48, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away following a car accident late Saturday night, May 2, 2026.
James was born on January 16, 1978, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield to Jimmie L. Aikins and Mary Felicia (Negrete) Aikins. He attended Winfield schools and received his diploma. James spent the majority of his life in the Winfield area, where he remained deeply connected to his family and community.
James was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and father who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He took great pride in the time he spent raising his sons.
James cared deeply about his family and was always willing to help those around him. His faith was important to him, and he held strong beliefs that guided the way he lived his life. He found meaning in being there for others and valued the time he spent with the people he loved.
He was a dedicated Hero for Babies blood donor through the American Red Cross. He donated blood since 1995 and had made 30 lifetime blood donations. James was just two donations away from reaching an incredible milestone of four gallons total donated. He took great pride in this program and was always excited to share where his donations were going and the lives they were helping, especially newborn babies across the country. In addition, James was generous in supporting organizations he cared about, always looking for ways to give back.
James had a deep love for animals and enjoyed caring for them whenever he could. He especially loved being a beekeeper, producing his own honey and products. He also took great pride in his garden and had a natural talent for growing and caring for plants.
He is survived by his father, Jimmie L. Aikins; his mother, Mary Felicia (Negrete) Aikins; his brother, Matthew Thomas Aikins; his sister, Lori Michele Aikins; his half brother Jimmie Lyle Aikins, Jr. and wife, Brittany; his former wife, Rachel Aikins; and his sons, James Alan Aikins II and Benjamin Eugene Aikins. He is also survived by his nieces, Kaylie Aikins; and Kasie Stauffer and husband, Riley; and his nephews, Dylan Durbin; and Denton Aikins and wife, Raychele; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother and godmother, Petra C. Negrete; his cousin, Thomas (Tommy) Anthony Negrete; his cousin, Nancy Reimer; and an infant son, Tater.
James will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the ways he cared for those around him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 AM prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.
