JACQUELINE L. "JACKIE" PICKENS, 81, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 13, 2014 at Cumbernauld Village.

Born August 13, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas, Jackie was the daughter of James H. "Jack" and Vera L. (Keeler) Snell. She was raised and received her education in Winfield, graduating Winfield High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Bernard "Bennie" Pickens on March 20, 1959 in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Wichita.

Jackie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after school. She worked ten years before deciding to be a stay at home mother. After a short time, however, she returned to the telephone company. In August 1967, she and Bennie moved their family to Winfield. Jackie retired from the telephone company in 1990.

She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, quilting, sewing, reading, baking and cooking. She also enjoyed the outdoors. She especially loved taking care of people and helping them in any way she could.

Her son: Barry Pickens of Overland Park, KS;
Her daughter: Bernita Issinghoff of Wichita, KS;
Her sister: Claudine Halbert of Winfield;
Her grandchildren: Jaci Caceres, Jessica Mendoza, Jocelyn Mendoza, Kristal Issinghoff and Jaclynn Pickens; and
Her great grandchildren: Deigo and Santi Caceres, Tyler and Ki Bryan, and Desi Mendoza.

Mrs. Pickens was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Michelle "Shelley" Mendoza.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday evening from 5 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6:30 P.M.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Pickens name for Cumbernauld Village or may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
