JACK D. SUTTON, 87, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2012 at his home.
Born September 22, 1924 in Cambridge, Kansas, he was the son of Don and Mabel (Whiteman) Sutton. He was raised and received his education in Cambridge.
Jack entered the United States Army on May 7, 1943. He was in the 186th Infantry and served as a surgical technician in New Guinea and Southern Philippines. He received a Bronze Service Arrowhead, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, WWII Victory Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. His most prized possession was the Purple Heart he recevied. He was honorably discharged on January 4, 1946.
Jack was united in marriage to Ursula Lappeneit in 1959 in Berlin, Germany. He and Ursula came to the United States in 1960 and made their home in Wichita, Kansas for 26 years. Following retirement, the Suttons moved to Las Vegas in 1986. They loved to travel and made several trips back to Germany, traveling much of Europe by automobile. Ursula preceded him in death on March 3, 1998.

In addition to his wife, Ursula, and his parents, Don and Mabel, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Maxene Champ.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside memorial services and military committal honors will be held on May 19, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Kansas.
