Obituary

JACK A. ARCHER, 82, of rural Winfield, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born March 22, 1929 in Winfield, he was the son of Joseph E. and Pansy (Cameron) Archer. He was raised and received his education in Winfield where he received his high school diploma.

Jack was united in marriage to Nina Mae Duncan on February 4, 1951 in Cedar Vale, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield and Arkansas City.

Jack served in the United States Navy and was a Seabee during World War II. He was a dozer operator. Jack retired from the Navy. He was the owner and operator of Archer Concrete Construction as well as Archer's Triple A Ranch. He worked in construction for thirty years in Arkansas City. Jack retired in 1989.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as Bishop for six and half years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1254 in Arkansas City, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Jack was also a member of the Thoroughbred Association and the American Black Angus Association.

His children: Steve Archer and wife, Pam of Arkansas City; Cindy Beeson and husband, Dan of Arkansas City; Natalea Archer of Arkansas City; and Tina Bridges and husband, John of Ponca City, OK;
His sisters: Janette Shipp and husband, Jim of Blue Jacket, OK; and Judy Lake and husband, Mike of Newkirk, OK;
His 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Joseph Archer and Pansy Davis, Jack was preceded in death by his son, Donald Jack "Jackie" Archer, his step-father, Hugh Davis and his great grandson, Chase Michael Archer.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Arkansas City. Interment will follow at Rose Valley Cemetery southeast of Winfield. A visitation will be held at the church Monday prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Jack's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
