Obituary

Ivan Montandon, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010 at Good Samaritan Society, in Winfield.

Born May 9, 1921 in Warren County, Tennessee, he was the son of Royal Lee and Bertie (Romans) Montandon. He was raised and received his education in Warren County. In 1942 he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas to be near family.

Ivan was united in marriage to Mildred Sheeks on June 25, 1942 in Hutchinson. The couple made their first home in Hutchinson. In the fall of 1942 Ivan joined the United States Army, and the couple moved to Laguna Beach, California. While in California Ivan patrolled the border between the United States and Mexico, as well as patrolling the California coast. He was then stationed in Panama, where he served as a guard at the Panama Canal. In 1945 he was honorably discharged and rejoined his wife in Winfield. Upon moving to Winfield he went to work at the cement block plant southwest of town. He then went to work at the flour mill until its closing in 1963. Ivan then began his own carpentry business, working on all kinds of projects from remodeling to roofing. He continued his carpentry until his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

His family includes:
His wife: Mildred Montandon of the home;
His sons: Paul Montandon of Moline; Terry Montandon of Winfield; Allen Montandon of Oklahoma City, OK;
His brother: Jack Montandon and wife, Arlene of Riverside, CA;
His 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; and
Many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Ivan was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Janice Montandon, a grandson Michael Montandon, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Friday, July 30, 2010 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday July 29, 2010. The family will greet visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 that evening.

A Memorial has been established in Ivan's name for the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
