Irma Lea (Boatright) Jenkins, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, was reunited with many loved ones and friends when she entered Heaven July 6, 2017.
Irma was born April 24, 1923 in Garland, Kansas, to Emmett and Pearl (Wise) Boatright. She grew up in rural Missouri attending Vernon County schools.
She was united in marriage to Dean Jenkins at the Bexar County Courthouse on August 7, 1942 in San Antonio, Texas where they continued to reside while Dean was stationed at Randolph Field. Dean and Irma moved to rural Winfield in the early 1950's. As a devoted wife and loving mother, Irma worked in the home to rear their children. She would can and freeze produce from their large garden, sew, cook meals and many other duties required to maintain a household.
Irma was an active member of Millington Street Baptist Church. She faithfully attended services, served as a Sunday school teacher, nursery worker, choir member and provided food for special church meals. From 1983 to 2006, Irma logged 7,919 volunteer hours with the Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, for which she hemmed and embroidered motifs on dozens of tea towels and assisted with the annual bazaar.

Sons: Larry Jenkins of Oxford; Douglas Jenkins and wife, Jan of Wichita; Norman Jenkins and wife, Jane of Harrison, AR;
Daughters: Janice Avera and husband, Charles of Morrison, CO; Marcia Jenkins of Olathe; Rhonda Knox and husband, Kenneth of Rowlett, TX;
Grandchildren: Marty Jenkins, Rickey Jenkins, Janelle Jenkins Vannoy, Becky Jenkins Smart, Lee Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, Chad Jenkins, Elise Jenkins Durtschi, Sara Jenkins Fredlund, Rebecca Avera Fuson, Joshua Avera, David Avera, John Avera, Timothy Avera, Elizabeth Avera, Hannah Knox Willard, Rachel Knox; and
Numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Irma was preceded in death by siblings, Atha Jean Boatright, Irene Weis, Donald Boatright, Wylie Boatright, Alice Reed Burchfield, Marie Boatright, Maxine Leach, Pauline Couch, Paul Boatright,and daughter-in-law, Karen Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Millington Street Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 to 5 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.
Memorials have been established in Irma's name for Millington Street Baptist Church and for the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
