Iris Sthole, 90, of Winfield, went to be with her Heavenly Father, on Saturday evening, March 10, 2018.
Born June 29, 1927 in Wichita, Kansas, she was the daughter of Leroy and Venita (Stewart) White. She was raised and received her education in El Dorado, Kansas, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1945. After school she worked as a telephone operator during the end of World War II.
Iris was united in marriage to Harper Sthole, Sr. on September 11, 1947 in El Dorado. The couple made their first home in Hutchinson before moving to Oklahoma, living in Ponca City and then Midwest City. In 1956, the family returned to Kansas, living for a short time in Arkansas City before settling in Winfield. During the early years of their marriage, Iris remained in the home caring for the family's children. In the early 1960's, Mr. and Mrs. Sthole started Sthole's Café on Main Street in Winfield. They continued running the café until 1968 when they began running The Last Frontier in Winfield. Mr. Sthole preceded her in death in 1973. Iris worked for three years as a cook at Country View Elementary School, and later Southwestern College. In 1982, she began a career with Wal-Mart which lasted over 30 years until her retirement in 2012.
She was an active member of the Hackney Community Baptist Church where she ran the Social Committee and volunteered as a cook at many church camps in Fredonia and Ponca City. She enjoyed working with ceramics and gardening.

Her son: Paul Sthole and wife, Pam of Cary, NC;
Her daughter: Cindy Bonham and husband, Lari of El Reno, OK;
Her 11 grandchildren: Jennifer, Jessica, Josette, Chad, Stacy, Ian, Austin, Evan, Becky, Rodney, Keri; and
Her 19 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Iris was preceded in death by two sons, Jim Sthole and Harper Sthole, Jr. and a brother, Stewart White.
Services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. A visitation will be held Thursday evening, March 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established for the Hackney Community Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
