Obituary

Iris N. McNally, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday evening, January 21, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village.

Born March 2, 1919, in Pittsburg, KS, she was the daughter of Charles and Ethel (Webb) Keplinger. She was raised and received her education in Pittsburg, graduating in 1937.

She was united in marriage on February 14, 1940 to John "Glenn" McNally, in Newton, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Wichita. In 1943 Glenn joined the Army Air Corp and proudly served his country for almost three years. While in the service the couple was stationed in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, and Nevada. After the service the couple returned to Wichita, where she worked for Boeing in the payroll department. They remained in Wichita until 1961, when they moved to Winfield. While in Winfield Iris worked as a switchboard operator for William Newton Hospital, a sales representative for Fuller Brush, a tax assessor for Cowley County. She also worked in the licensing department for the fish and game department, and retired as the shipping supervisor for Beech Aircraft.

Iris and Glenn both loved to travel. When their family was younger, they would often take family vacations in their station wagon to Florida and Colorado to visit family. After retirement the couple continued traveling to Texas, Louisiana, and Nebraska to visit family. They also enjoyed their return trip to Yellowstone, where they had visited early in their marriage. Mr. McNally preceded her in death in August of 2008.

Iris was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Winfield. Her hobbies included gardening, playing the piano, singing, reading, knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She made most of her own clothing, as well as many outfits for her children. She also enjoyed taking trips with the family to go roller skating.

Her family includes:

Her daughters: Carla Carothers and husband, John of Winfield; Sandra Alvarado and husband, Frank of Winfield; Susan Rainwater of Winfield; Deanne Lacey of Lincoln, NE;
Her grandchildren: Audra, Carmen, Molly, Kelli, Shauna, Emily, Alyna, Christie, Lakin, Katie, David, Kyle, Mike, Marc Donald, Carl, John, Nathan, Stetson, Brent, Joe; and
Her 20 great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Iris was preceded in death by two infant daughters, babies McNally; her granddaughter, Tiffany McNally; her infant granddaughter, baby Berniklau; her infant great-grandson, John David Carothers; her son-in-law, Richard Rainwater; her daughter-in-law Pam McNally; her brother Arnold Ross Keplinger; and her sister Eleanor Wiehe.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday January 27, at 10:00 A.M., at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Inurnment services will be held follow at Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Iris's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
