Ina Floy Geier, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, previously of Girard, passed away Saturday morning, July 1, 2023, at Winfield Senior Living.
Born October 27, 1931, in Levelland, Texas, she was the daughter of GW and Novell (Hinson) Good. She spent her elementary years in Kansas on ranches throughout the state. She graduated from the College of Emporia, now closed Presbyterian College, as Valedictorian in 1952. She later attended Pittsburg State University where she obtained her Masters in Education.
Ina Floy was united in marriage to Melvin Geier in 1952. Prior to graduation, the two were King and Queen of Hearts at the C of E Valentine Dance. Ina Floy taught school for 40 years, first as an elementary school teacher for 30 years and then special education the last ten years. She touched many lives and assisted Melvin with running a cattle business. After retirement in 1996, she enjoyed weekly breakfast with close Girard friends. She was active in PEO for 50 years, as well as numerous community groups. Mr. Geier preceded her in death in 2017. Following his death, Ina Floy moved to Winfield Senior Living Assisted Living unit and later to the Memory Care unit.
Her family includes her daughters, Kathy Sankey and husband, Lyle of Branson, MO; Kaye Barthuly and husband, David of Winfield; her grandchildren, Jared Barthuly and wife, Faryle of Lenexa; Sasha Nelson and husband, Kirk of Branson, MO; Cody Barthuly and wife, Kate of Overland Park; and her great grandchildren, Aurora and Sophie Barthuly.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ina Floy was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Lavoy and Harold Sheel.
A family Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 1:00 P.M., at the Girard City Cemetery, under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Ina Floy's name for Winfield Senior Living Memory Care Unit's Activity Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
