Ila Marie (Parmley) Thompson, 91, died peacefully at her home in Udall, Kansas, on October 20, 2021, of natural causes.
Ila was born on January 20, 1930, in Newton County, Missouri, to Henry and Lucille Parmley, the first and favorite of six children. She attended Midway School for 12 years and set off to work after graduation. In 1951, Ila moved to Wichita, Kansas, to work for Boeing for nearly two decades. She married Mike Thompson in May 1967 and moved to Udall, Kansas. There, she and Mike spent their lives doing what they loved most, farming full-time, on the Lily Sawin Thompson farm.
Ila was a member of Udall United Methodist Church and graced the members with her beautiful contralto voice for many years. She participated in numerous church groups and activities and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and spending time with those she loved. In 2001, Ila survived Stage III Lymphoma, a testament to her strength and determination.
Ila was preceded in death by her brothers Carol (Fat) Parmley, James (Jim) Parmley, and Carl (Skinny) Parmley.
Her life will forever be cherished by her husband Mike Thompson; sisters Mary Lowe and Dolly Gray; sisters-in-law, Belva and Ruth Parmley; brother-in-law Max Thompson; caregiver Gina Saavedra; special friend and casino chauffeur; numerous nieces and nephews; and all those whose lives she touched during her time with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Udall United Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at 2:00 P.M. under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. Fellowship and refreshments will follow. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Ila's name for the Udall United Methodist Church or their favorite charity. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
