Hugh H. Blakey, 95, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Wednesday morning, April 16, 2008, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born on December 6, 1912, in Cheney, Kansas, he was the son of Fred and Bertha (Warren) Blakey. He was raised and received his education in Cheney, and joined the United States Army Air Corp, in 1941. Hugh proudly served his country in World War II, being stationed in Northern Africa, and Europe. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and received numerous medals and commendations.

After an honorable discharge from the Army he returned home to Kansas and married Marcella Wille. The couple had one son. He later married Avis Price in Hereford, Texas and the couple made their home in Hereford.

Hugh worked for many years in insurance and real estate sales. Hugh had a love of aviation, sports, and was an avid golfer. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

His son: James W. Blakey and wife Lee Ann of Katy, Texas;
His step sons: John, Tim, and Jake Northcutt all of Texas;
His step daughter: Janie Schumacher and husband John of Texas;
His sister: Bernice Walker of Winfield, Kansas;
His grandchildren: Lyndsey and Danielle Blakey of Katy, Texas, and Christy Bruner and husband Justin of Spring, Texas;
His great grandson: Luke Bruner of Spring, Texas; and
Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and caretakers who love him.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Avis.

Mr. Blakey's body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.

A memorial has been established in Hugh's name for Winfield Rest Haven. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
