Herschel E. Putman, 88, of Wichita, Kansas, June 21, 2018.
Born July 18, 1929 in Burden, Kansas, he was the son of Alphious O. and Edna B. (Gatton) Putman. He grew up in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School. He married Melva L. Day on April 3, 1949 and the couple moved to Wichita in 1958. Herschel retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 45 years. He enjoyed riding his bike and spending time with his family, whether it was fishing or watching them play various sports. He devoted many hours to delivering Meals on Wheels in Wichita.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Phyllis L. Tulk and Audra L. Dorminy.
He is survived by his wife Melva Putman; daughters, Karen (Ken) Morgan, Marla (Larry) Appenfeller, and Amy (Kevin) McCurdy; grandchildren, Jeremy (Marcy) Davis, Nicklaus (April) Davis, Clark (Stephanie) Lee, Kate McCurdy and Anna McCurdy; and great grandchildren, Lilli and Ian Davis.
Private family memorial services will be held at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Herschel's name for Meals on Wheels of Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
