Henry Lee Sparks, 93, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Monday evening, May 6, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans' Home in Winfield.
Born July 2, 1919 in El Reno, Oklahoma he was the son of Charles Henry and Hazel Ruth (Hamby) Sparks. He was raised and received his education El Reno, Oklahoma. After school he joined the United States Army Air Corp, where he proudly served his county in World War II. After his honorable discharge from the service he moved to the Winfield area.
Henry was united in marriage to Ruth Amanda Archer on September 3, 1944. The couple made their home in the Winfield area. Henry worked for over 22 years for the Winfield Fire Department.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield and the Odd Fellows Association. He enjoyed farming, wood working, taking care of animals, as well as building and remodeling homes. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

His daughters: Marilyn Suzanne Ham of Winfield; Martha Lee King of Oxford; Frances Yvonne Butler of Topeka; and
His 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Henry was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer Sparks, and two grandchildren, Teresa Ramsey and Michelle King.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Thursday, May 9 2013 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, May 8, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Sparks name for the Kansas Veterans' Home in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
