Henry R. Rutherford, Sr., 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, July 26, 2018 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Born May 29, 1941 in Winfield, he was the son of Ray and Theora (Sowers) Rutherford. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1960. In 1963 he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country in Germany, until receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. After his discharge he returned to Winfield.

He was united in marriage to Mary E. Mays on April 22, 1966 at the Central Baptist Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield, where Henry began working in sales for Pepsi Cola. He remained at Pepsi for over 20 years before working at Gordon Piatt and later Webster Engineering & Manufacturing Company. He remained at Webster until retiring in 2007. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, golfing, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

His family includes his wife Mary of Winfield; his children Ray Rutherford and wife, Esther of Wichita; Henry Rutherford, Jr., of Winfield; Winona Stone of Augusta; Rhonda Plummer and husband, Harold of Ponca City, OK; his brothers Kenneth Rutherford and wife, Sandy of Winfield; Cecil Rutherford of Winfield; and his seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Rutherford.

A private family inurnment with Military Committal Honors will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
