Henry Leon Johnson, 80, of Arkansas City, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his home.
Born May 1, 1938 in Ponca City, Oklahoma, he was the son of John Henry and Agnes (Gardner) Johnson. He joined the United States Army on July 31, 1956 and proudly served his country as a Combat Engineer until transferring to the Army Reserves on July 31, 1959.
Henry was united in marriage to Joni Billings on April 6, 2002 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Arkansas City. Henry worked in the oilfields before becoming a dairy farmer. He retired in 1998.
His family includes his wife Joni Johnson of Arkansas City; his children, Janna Wilson of Iola; Brad Johnson and wife, Kim of Tustin, CA; Michelle Johnson of Port Angeles, WA; his sister Pat Brewer and husband, Larrie of Udall; and his grandchildren, Morgan Jackson and husband, Adam of Iola; Hailey Medders and husband, Joseph of Rosedale, MS; Joshua Johnson of Houston, TX; Kaeleigh Johnson of Charlotte, NC; Joe Johnson of Tustin, CA; Matthew Fiddler and wife Pam of Yulee, FL; Laurel Fiddler of Denver, CO.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by a sister Mary Cook and a grandson Kyle Swope.
Private Military Committal Honors will take place at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. The family will hold a come and go Celebration of Life on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from noon to 5 P.M. at the VFW in Winfield. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Henry's name for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3544. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
