Henry Franklin "Frank" Cummings, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2018 at Cumbernauld Village surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 7, 1927 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Charles Edwin and Olive Modesta (Cunningham) Cummings. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. During his junior year, he was drafted into the United States Army Air Force and served his country near the end of WWII. While in the service, Frank completed his high school diploma, which he received 74 years later on December 27, 2017. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Winfield and returned to work at the flour mill.
Frank was united in marriage to Leota M. Shelburn on August 7, 1946 in Winfield where they made their home their entire 61-year marriage. Frank began working for the City of Winfield in the water department in 1949 and later transferred to the power department. He remained with the city for over 43 years, retiring in 1992. Leota preceded him in death on January 22, 2008.
He enjoyed the outdoors, raising horses, cattle, chickens and dogs, going to county and state fairs and listening to Marty Robbins. He loved spending time with his family.

His grandchildren: Michelle Cunningham of Wichita; Jaime Morey and husband, Travis of Cleveland, TN; Preston Cummings and wife, Andrea of Topeka; Mike Brown and wife, Kyoko of Japan; Robert Brown of Kansas City, MO; Nakia Brown and wife, Georgia of Olathe;
His great grandchildren: Rhian, Blaine and Bailey Cunningham, Flint and Lakelynn Morey, Iris Cummings, Issac and Matthew Brown, Barrett and Bowman Brown; and
Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by his brothers, Valjean, Leo, Charles and Harl Cummings, his sisters, Cleda Young, Lois Favort and Margie Castle and a great granddaughter, Morgan Brown.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 at Miles Funeral Service. Inurnment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
Memorials have been established in Frank's name for Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, Harry Hynes Hospice, and Cumbernauld Village Employee Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
