Henry A. Eggleston, Jr., 85, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, March 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by God and his family.
Born July 6, 1935 in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of Henry A. Sr., and Douglas "Ordunna" (Hockenbury) Eggleston. He was raised and received his education in Arkansas City before moving with his family to Woodward, Oklahoma, for a short time. The family later returned to Arkansas City where Henry attended and graduated from Arkansas City High School. After school he went to work at Rodeo Meat Packing Plant in Arkansas City. He remained there for over 29 years until the packing plant closed.
Henry was united in marriage to Mina M. (Swearingen) Bonnell on June 6, 1985 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winfield where Henry worked for the State of Kansas for 18 years, retiring as a painter in the Maintenance Department in 1997. After retiring he went to work as a janitor for the Evangelical Free Church in Winfield.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed yardwork, woodworking, gardening, and spending time with his family.
His family includes his wife Mina Eggleston of Winfield; his children, Cheri Genescritti of TX; Mike Eggleston and wife, Robin of Tucson, AZ; Matt Eggleston and wife, Kerrie of Tucson, AZ; Mark Eggleston and wife, Jen of Phoenix, AZ; Cyndi Harris and husband, Henry of Udall; Kevin Pietro and wife, Sheri of Ottawa; Robert Pietro of Belle Plaine; his half-sister Karen Gallagher of Wichita; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his father Henry Eggleston Sr., his mother Ordunna Goddard, a son Jeffery Eggleston, a daughter Christie Phillips, a half-sister Judy, and a half-brother Alan.
In lieu of services, Henry has asked that everyone find their own time and own place to sing "Victory in Jesus", loud and clear as a memorial to him.
Memorials have been established in Henry's name for Harry Hynes Hospice and for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made though Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
