HELEN L. ELLARD, 90, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, June 19, 2011 at William Newton Hospital.
Born April 29, 1921 in Fruita, Colorado, she was the daughter of Clifford Virgil "C.V." and Dasy Belle (McCain) Frueh. Her family moved to Grenola when she was a child, and she was raised and educated there, graduating Grenola High School in 1939 as the Salutatorian.
Helen worked at Diebles Café & Candy Store and later at Boeing Aircraft Company where she met Les Ellard, and later married. Helen also worked as a Customer Service Representative at a bank. Helen and Les divorced. She later married Bob Smith and the couple was married for twenty five years before they divorced. Helen remarried her first husband Les. She moved back to the Winfield area after Les passed away nine years ago.
Helen loved dancing and taking pictures. She also enjoyed talking to people.
Her family includes:
Her son: Les Ellard and wife, Helene of Deerfield, Texas and their son, Travis;
Her sister: Lola Hendrickson of Winfield; and
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Frieda F. Harper.
Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date at Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A Memorial has been established in Helen's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
