Helen E. Booe Heilig, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, July 22, 2017, at Winfield Senior Living Community.
Born July 18, 1928, in Turley, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of James William and Mary Elizabeth (Trook) Palmer. She spent her early childhood in Davenport, Oklahoma before moving with her family to Cambridge, Kansas. The family then settled in Winfield, where Helen graduated Winfield High School in 1945. After high school, she attended Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.
In 1951, she married Dean Ellis Sweet. The couple made their home in Wichita. To this union, three sons were born. The couple later divorced. Helen returned to Winfield and began working as a Nurse's Aide at William Newton Hospital. In 1963, she was united in marriage to George S. Booe. The couple made their first home in Winfield, and later lived east of the Winfield City Lake before making their home in New Salem. Helen continued working at William Newton Hospital until going to work at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center and later at Winfield Rest Haven. Mr. Booe preceded her in death in 1981.
Helen worked as the Activities Director at Winfield Rest Haven and later ran a daycare in her home on John Street until retiring in the late 1980's. She was united in marriage to William "Clarence" Heilig on December 31, 1994 at Praise Cathedral Church of God in Winfield. Mr. Heilig preceded her in death in 2011.
She was a Charter Member of Praise Cathedral Church of God. She enjoyed reading, needlework, sewing and embroidery.

Her sister: Joy Johnson of Dexter;
Her step son-in-law: Earl Sutton;
Her step daughter-in-law: Donna Booe;
Her grandchildren: Jason Sweet and wife, Nicole; Sherri Terrell and husband, Jamie; Misty Terrill and husband, Jamie; Randy Sweet; Kelly Sweet; Brian May and wife, Stacey; Jimmy May; Steve May and wife, Cathy; Shannon Nemmers and husband, Danny; Dawnielle Miller; Trevor Montgomery and wife, Melissa; Amé Irvin; Fallon LeFervre and husband, Jonathon; Dwain Jr. Heilig; Christoper Heilig; Julie; Wendy; Kristin; Melissa; Karen; and
Numerous great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Helen was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Crystal Booe and Lorrie Suzanne Heilig, a sister, Mary Ina Miller, two brothers, Floyd Palmer and Archie Palmer, two infant siblings, a stepson, Robert Booe and a stepdaughter, Pat Sutton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Private family inurnment will be held at Cambridge Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017, from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8 that evening.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Helen's name for Praise Cathedral Church of God in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
