Hazel Inez (Fore) Calcote, 94, of Winfield, Kansas, passed into the hands of her Heavenly Father on May 25, 2016.

Hazel was born to Ed and Sarah Fore on June 25, 1921, near Brookhaven, Mississippi. The youngest of three children, Hazel helped her parents with their dairy farm and ice business until she graduated from Loyd Star High School in 1940.

Hazel married Lee Russell Calcote, and they had three children, Victor, Elrea, and Elizabeth in Mississippi. Hazel supported Russell as he became a minister and served churches in Indiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Texas and Kansas. In Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia, they had their youngest two children, Ronald and Katrina.

Hazel and Russell moved to Kansas in 1961. In Kansas, they served in Nickerson, Cheney, Mankato, Bison, Solomon and Hillsboro. Hazel was active in the churches and communities they served, as a Youth Director, Sunday School teacher, church circle member, Eastern Star member and Red Cross worker. When she was fifty, Hazel earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree, graduating in the top of her class. Hazel thoroughly enjoyed her nursing career well into her seventies.

In 1988, Russell and Hazel moved to Winfield, Kansas. Hazel continued to be active in her church and community, and enjoyed gathering with friends and family for church events, music concerts, theater, trips and cruises. She completed her lifelong goal of visiting all fifty states, as well as Canada, Mexico, England and Ireland. Hazel enjoyed sending cards to friends and family, making each person feel special and loved. Her positive attitude and compassionate spirit will be missed by many.
