Obituary

HARRY D. BARNTHOUSE, 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Monday evening, September 21, 2015 in Winfield.

Born on September 12, 1926 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Ralph and Edna (Mumaugh) Barnthouse. He was raised and received his education in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1944. As a young man, Harry was manager of the Nile Movie Theater and later worked at Gott Manufacturing.

He was united in marriage to June Stites on June 5, 1949 in Winfield where the couple made their home. Harry was employed by the City of Winfield in the light department. He began working for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier, carrying mail for 22 years. Following his retirement he worked in the appraiser's office at the Cowley County Courthouse and also worked part time at Miles Funeral Service.

Harry was a lifelong, faithful member of the First Christian Church serving in several capacities. He loved watching baseball and riding his bicycle. Harry enjoyed television, especially the Andy Griffith Show and Lawrence Welk. He and June enjoyed attending the Winfield Band Concerts and eating out.

He said his greatest achievement was being married to June, "the love of his life," for 66 years.

His daughters: Linda Barnthouse of Wichita, KS; Nancy Wilson and husband Keith of Winfield, KS; and Marsha King and husband Kyle of Glendale, AZ;
His grandchildren: Barclay Wilson Milton and husband Howard, Brooke Wilson, Chad Wilson, Heather King Cook and husband Jeff, and Amber King;
His great-grandchildren: Camryn and Kylee Dryden, Makena and Cooper Cook, Connor, Claire and Callie Milton, and Avery and Max Wilson.
His sister-in-laws: Elaine Barnthouse of Winfield, KS; Jody Barnthouse of Arkansas City, KS; and Fern Kircher of Colorado; and
A special friend of the family: Joan Krack.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Barnthouse Wright; and his brothers, Bill, Jim and Dick Barnthouse.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Wilmot Cemetery, north of Winfield. Friends may sign a register book at Miles Funeral Service on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Harry's name be made to the First Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
