Harold Williams, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Winfield Senior Living.
Born November 29, 1926 in Abesville, Missouri, he was the son of Fred and Alva (Simon) Williams. He was raised and received his education in Douglass, Kansas. Harold was inducted into the United States Navy on January 26, 1945 and proudly served his country during WWII. He was honorably discharged on May 7, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Alice Need on November 10, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Winfield. The couple made their home in Douglass for many years, moving to Winfield in 1975. Harold ran the Standard Oil Station in Douglass and drove a bulk truck delivering gas for many years. He then worked as warehouse supervisor for the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3544, a member of the American Legion Post #10, the Douglass Masonic Lodge, the Wichita Shrine and the Wichita Consistory. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting, and especially loved spending time with his family.
His family includes his wife Alice of Winfield; his children, Charlene and Denny of Oklahoma; his nieces and nephews, Larry White and wife, Lori of Douglass; Donna White-Smith and husband, Jack of Branson, MO; Malinda MacKay and husband, Ron of Mulvane; Kirby Gibson and wife, Kathy of Douglass; Kimberly Burch and husband, Scott of Douglass; Kendra Cornejo and husband, Ron of Wichita; his sister-in-law Nola White of Douglass; his brother-in-law Gary Gibson and wife, Sharon of Douglass; and many other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Atlanta Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 6 that evening.
