Steadham

Harold W. Steadham, 96, of Winfield, Kansas passed away early Thursday morning, April 9, 2020 at Cumbernauld Village.
Born July 31, 1923 in Gainesville, Texas, he was the son of Hal and Stella (McKinley) Steadham. He attended El Dorado High School, graduating in 1942. He then attended Wichita State University where he received his bachelor degree. Harold went on to attend post graduate school for Hospital Administration at St. Louis University.
He was united in marriage to Patsy Lou Smith on February 1, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas. Harold was in the U.S. Army serving in the 45th tank brigade, 113th armored division, from December 1942 to February 1946. He served under General Patton in the European Theatre. Harold first began working as an assistant Hospital Administrator in Pensacola, Florida. In 1957 his family moved to West Point, Georgia, where he became Hospital Administrator at George H. Lanier Memorial. He continued there until an opportunity to be near his family in Winfield, Kansas arose in 1969. They moved to Winfield and he became the Hospital Administrator at William Newton Hospital. He continued his career until retiring in 1994. Harold is past president of the Alabama Hospital Association as well as the Kansas Hospital Association. He was also a member and Elder of the former First Christian Church of Winfield.
Harold was known for his hard work on his yard, and porch parties with his family and friends at his home on 9th street, better known as 1104. He also enjoyed, for many years taking his seven grandchildren, by himself at Thanksgiving, to the Dexter candy factory. In 2010, Harold and his son Mark, went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C, which was a highlight of his life.
His family includes his wife of over 72 years, Patsy of Winfield; his children, Liza Ben Vaughn of Arkansas City, Ks. Wayne Steadham and wife, Diane of Winfield; Mark Steadham and wife Debbie of Morris, IL; Sally Jo Butters and husband, Steve of Naples, FL; a sister Shirley Kern, of Wichita, Ks. his grandchildren, Amanda Graves, Matthew Cary, Bryan Cary, Alexa Brown, Bo Butters, Jonathan Butters, and Betsy Bellerive, numerous nieces and nephews, great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by brothers Ben and Max Steadham, sister Geraldine Van Deren, and son in law David Vaughn.
Private family services will be held at Miles Funeral Service at 2:00 pm Saturday April 11, 2020. Interment will follow. Friends may view the service online at www.milesfuneralservice.com. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established in Harold's name at the Winfield Food Pantry. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
