Obituary

SFC. HAROLD E. SHIPP, 84, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away late Sunday
night, January 9, 2011 at his home.

Born April 2, 1926 in Winfield, Harold was the son of James Riley and Anna May (Block) Shipp. He was raised and received his education in Winfield.

Harold was united in marriage to Frances Joann (Slagle) Parkerson on February 12, 1972 in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. He joined the United States Army in June of 1944. During his service, Harold served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army as a Sergeant First Class and joined the Army Reserve in May of 1967. Harold owned and operated H & J Small Engine Repair when he returned to Winfield.

His family includes:
His wife: Joann of the home;
His brothers: James F. Shipp and wife, Jeanette of Bluejacket, Oklahoma; Walter H. Shipp of California; and Riley G. Shipp of Winfield;
His very special nephew: "Little David";
His step-son: Rickey C. Parkerson and wife, Karma of Alta Vista, Kansas;
His granddaughters: April L. Parkerson; and Teaha Chestnut and husband, Bob;
Many nieces and nephews; and
His loyal and faithful friend: Ron Berwert of Winfield.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Lee and Marvin E., his sister, Marie J. Wilson, and his step-daughter, Pamela K. Parkerson.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 1 to 5 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. The family will greet visitors during this time. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

A Memorial has been established in Mr. Shipp's name for the Kansas Veteran's Home in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
