Obituary

Harold Russell Nickell 83, of Magnolia, Texas, passed on from this life on January 15, 2020.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Arlynne Marie; Daughter: Nancy Nickell of Gilberts, IL; Sons: Roger Nickell (wife Karen) and Hans Nickell (wife Allison) of Murrieta, CA; Grandchildren: Ryan Pfefferle & fiancée Shannon Hopp, Rachel & Brandon Connell, Miles & Bridget Pfefferle, Austen & April Nickell, Connor & Vaennessa Nickell, Jordan Nickell and Sydney Nickell; Great-Grandchildren: Ava, Arielle, and Kellen Pfefferle, Pennie and Dylan Nickell; and Brother: Jay Russell (wife Mary Ann) of Phoenix, AZ.

He was preceded in death by brothers: Vernon Lee Roy Russell and Donald Russell; and sisters: Arzona Carlson, Adel Russell, Margie Acree, Pauline Henderson, Wanda Turner and Maxine Peck.

Harold was born May 20, 1936 to Kizzie Sumner Russell and Roy Russell and was adopted by Irene Russell Nickell and Raymond Nickell after Kizzie's death and raised in Norridge, Illinois.

Harold was united in marriage to Arlynne Marie Lewis, on August 20, 1955 at Nebo Lutheran Church in Chicago and they made their home in Franklin Park, Illinois. He spent his time outside of work managing several baseball teams with Westdale Little League and as Scout Master for River Forest and Leyden Township over the years as the boys grew up. Harold especially loved the weekend scouting camp outs. He would lead the scouts on adventures and teach outdoor skills and loved caring for his lawn, being outdoors and traveling. He made his career in sheet metal fabrication and his knowledge and ability allowed him to manufactured small intricate parts as well as large structural sections of buildings.

Harold and Arlynne lived in the greater Chicago area until 2007. They moved to Magnolia, Texas in 2007 to enjoy retirement in their forever home. He spent his retirement tinkering and woodworking items for his family and friends and was a big fan of old style country music and would whistle those tunes while in his shop working on his projects. He could be heard whistling around the house while completing his "honey do" list and he took every opportunity when visiting with family and friends to tell stories of the 'old days'...before indoor plumbing, private telephone lines and adventures of being the youngest one in the family.

Harold was a family man who loved and adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was blessed to come from a large family with many nieces, nephews and cousins and was grateful for every moment he could spend with family.

Harold and Arlynne are members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church.  He was an usher for the church and enjoyed many friendships made through the church.
