Obituary

Harley Hoyt, 82, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, November 17, 2018 at his home.

Born April 25, 1936 in Dexter, Kansas, he was the son of Dale and Dollie (Daniel) Hoyt. He began his education in Dexter before moving with his family to Cunningham, Kansas. In 1948 the family returned to Winfield where Harley finished his education graduating from Winfield High School in 1954.

He was united in marriage to Betty Nichols on November 28, 1954 at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield where they remained until moving to a farm east of Rock in 1960. In 1967, they moved north of Winfield where they continued to farm and ranch until moving in 1984 to their current home in Winfield. Harley began working for Sonner Burner in Winfield in the late 1950s and remained there when the company was purchased by Gordan Piatt. He worked for Gordan Piatt for over 30 years until retiring as plant manager in 1993.

He was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church north of Winfield and was currently attending Central Baptist Church. Harley enjoyed being a farmer, roping cattle and going to rodeos. After retiring he enjoyed being the babysitter for all of his grandchildren, spending lots of time watching over them.

His family includes his daughter Harlene Hoyt-Johnson and husband, Scott Johnson of Winfield; his son Rex Hoyt and wife, Sheila of Leon; his sister Ardeth Blakey of Ocala, FL; and his nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

In addition to his wife and parents, Harley was preceded in death by a daughter Jackie Spencer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Harley's name for the William Newton Healthcare Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
