H. Jeannine Bryan, 83, of Winfield, passed away Friday night, June 17, 2022, at her home.
Born September 10, 1938, in Wichita, she was the daughter of Illinois Kansas and Hazel Esther (Rhoades) Lygrisse. Jeannine was raised and received her education in Benton, graduating from Benton High School in 1956. Following high school, she attended Friends University until 1959. Jeannine was a member of The Singing Quakers choir while at Friends University.
Jeannine was united in marriage to Jerry Lee Bryan on March 29, 1959, at the University Friends Church in Wichita. The couple made their home in Burden and were blessed with two children, Philip and Barbara. Jeannine worked in the home for several years before deciding to return to school to finish her degree. She finished her studies at Southwestern College in Winfield, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969.
Jeannine taught science and home economics classes. She used the summertime when school was out to complete the necessary courses for her master's degree which she obtained from Emporia State University in 1979. Jerry and Jeannine enjoyed taking the kids on family vacations and continued their travels even after the kids moved out of the house. Jerry preceded Jeannine in death on February 2, 2008. She moved to Winfield after Jerry's passing but still enjoyed traveling with friends. Jeannine also liked quilting and reading. She was involved in the Walnut Valley Quilters Guild, Kansas Quilters Organization, and attended the First Baptist Church in Burden.
Jeannine's family includes her son Phil Bryan and wife, Diane; her daughter Barbara Cross and husband, Steve; her grandchildren, Breeanna McSpadden and husband, Brian; Brant Calvin and wife, Kyrsten; Garrett Calvin and wife, Meg; Kyle Bryan and wife, Kelsey; and Seth Bryan; her great-grandchildren, Ireland Bryan; Tucker Bryan; Emrey Calvin; Owen Calvin; Jack McSpadden; Charlotte McSpadden; and Henley Calvin, her brothers, Lowell Lygrisse and wife, Zee; and Glenn Lygrisse and wife, Dianne; her sister Carolyn Wolf and husband, Gary; and a brother-in-law, Larry Warren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jeannine was preceded in death by her sister Margery Warren.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Burden Cemetery. There will be a time for visitors to greet the family from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday evening, June 23, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Jeannine's name for Harry Hynes Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
