Gregory Jean Spencer, 47, of Dexter, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2019 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Born May 5, 1971 in Wellington, Kansas he was the son of Gary and Mary (Johnston) Spencer. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1989. While in high school, Greg was the quarterback on the football team as well as being a member of the baseball and wrestling team. He then went on to play football at Independence Community College and returned to Cowley County Community College where he obtained his Associates Degree.
Greg married Jennifer Johnson on November 11, 2001 in Overland Park. The couple made their home in Prairie Village, Kansas where Greg worked for a landscaping company and later for Johnson County Juvenile Justice. Greg and Jennifer had two children, Taylor and Jackson and later divorced. In 2010, Greg returned to Winfield.
He was united in marriage to Kristie Setzkorn on October 15, 2011 at the Looney Bin in Wichita, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Winfield and moved to Dexter in 2015. He worked as a service tech driver for Propane Central in Winfield.
Greg was a member of the Cowboy Church in Dexter. He enjoyed shooting guns, shooting more guns, cutting trees, being outside, going on cruises, and spending time with his dogs. He especially enjoyed being around his friends and family and spending time with his grandchildren.
His family includes his wife Kristie of Dexter; his children, Tory Setzkorn of Winfield; Taylor Spencer of Mission; Skyla Setzkorn of Dexter; Aryn Setzkorn of Winfield; Jackson Spencer of Mission; his parents, Gary Spencer and wife, Sharon of Udall; Mary Farnsworth and husband, Ronald of Winfield; his paternal grandmother Martha Spencer of Winfield; his siblings, Michal Spencer and spouse, Kerry of Woodland Hills, CA; Stephen Spencer and wife, Dana of Olathe; Kristy Berger and husband, Monte of Udall; Missi Henderson and husband, Shane of Winfield; Brandi Walker of Winfield; Chad Parker of Winfield; Justin Armstrong of Park City; his grandchildren, Lucas Blanco, Ameliyah Sivils, Matthew Moody-Setzkorn; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Greg was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jean and Elizabeth Johnston, and his paternal grandfather Meryl Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday evening from 4 to 8 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 that evening.
The Gregory Spencer Scholarship Fund has been established in memorial of Greg. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
