Obituary

Goldie May Dodson, 101, formerly of Moline, Kansas passed away Tuesday morning, March 12, 2013 at the Salem Home in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Born August 2, 1911, in Dennis, Kansas she was the daughter of Doug and Ora Etta (Correll) Shields. She was raised and received her education in Dennis, graduating from Dennis High School in 1929.

Goldie was united in marriage to Durward C. Dodson on October 9, 1929 in Labette, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Dennis and later moved to Longton. In 1939 the couple moved to Moline, Kansas where they began Dodson Jewelry Shop. Goldie worked along side her husband for 47 years in the jewelry shop and as the City Clerk of Moline until retiring in 1988. Mr. Dodson preceded her in death on February 19, 1989. In 1993 Goldie moved to Winfield to be near family.

She was a member of the Moline Baptist Church, and the American Baptist Women. She worked faithfully in her church all of her life. She transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church in Winfield in 1993. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors for over 40 years. She was active in many community activities. She enjoyed studying history, and traveling. Her travels on bus tour trips took her to many places including, Nashville, Branson, Eureka Springs, Denver, Galveston, and Wisconsin.

In addition to her parents, and husband Goldie was preceded in death by her son, Dale Dodson, a granddaughter, Connie Reid, and a great granddaughter, Jeris Wunderlich.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Friday March 15, 2013 at the Moline Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Moline Cemetery in Moline. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in Mrs. Dodson's name for the Moline Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
