Gloria Ann Lawrence, 80, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, September 13, 2011 at William Newton Hospital.
Gloria was born in Elkhart, Indiana on May 20, 1931, to Walter and Lera (Holman) Gornik. She attended school in the Concord school system in Dunlap, Indiana. She married in 1948 to John C. Allen. They had three children: Mark, Christine, and Beth. The marriage ended in divorce. Gloria and William (Leonard) Lawrence married in 1966. She retired from Binney and Smith (now Crayola) after 23 years in 1989, and also worked at Cumbernauld Village.
In 1982, Gloria and Leonard adopted and raised their grandson, Zachary. She loved seeing her grandchildren, keeping in touch with friends and family, and watching and caring for animals.
She was preceded in death by her sister Leisa Voleck.
She is survived by her husband Leonard, of the home; son Mark and wife Jill of Clemmons, NC; daughter Christine Allen of Georgia; daughter Beth Allen of Atlanta, GA; son Zachary Lawrence and wife Erin of Wichita, KS; sister Linda Davis of North Liberty, Indiana; brother Joseph Gornik and wife Glennis of Modesto, Ca, brother-in-law Tony Voleck of Rolling Meadow, Illinois; grandchildren T.J. Redd, Lexy Wagoner, Ricky Romine, and Liam and Isabel Lawrence; and two great-grandchildren Megan and Bryce Redd.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 19, 2011 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery north of Arkansas City. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. The family will greet visitors during this time.
A memorial has been established in Gloria's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
