Glenda Jeanette Ventle, 67, of Atlanta, Kansas, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 2, 2020 at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.
Born December 1, 1953 in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of James Pinkney and Mary Ann (Glenn) Harwell. She was raised and received her education in Pflugerville, Cameron, and Corpus Christi, Texas, attending Carroll High School. Glenda married Michael Gene Parker on February 19, 1971 in Corpus Christi. The couple made their home in Corpus Christi. They had one child and later divorced.
Glenda later made her home in Brazoria County, Texas where she began her restaurant career as a waitress and later became the area manager for Denny's for over ten years. She then returned to Cameron, Texas and worked as a painter for her Uncle Bob at Glenn's Construction. While in Cameron, she was very active in her church and loved to sing.
In July of 2012, Glenda moved to Atlanta, Kansas. She was united in marriage to James Ventle on September 21, 2012 at the Atlanta Christian Church. The couple made their home in Atlanta and Glenda began working at Southwestern College. She then worked as a cook at the Sassy Lady Café in Burden before opening the Atlanta Country Café on May 19, 2019. Due to health concerns, she retired in June 2020.
She was a member of Dexter Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family, and taking a monthly visit to the casino. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.
Her family includes her husband James Ventle of Atlanta; her children, Michelle Vance and husband, Billy of Aransas Pass, TX; Melvin Randon and wife, Rebecca of Churchill, TX; Timmy Parker of Brazoria, TX; Ricky Parker and wife, Amanda of Sweeny, TX; Erica Stout and husband, John of Arkansas City; Tracy Koller of Winfield; Zack Peters and wife, Dana of Arkansas City; her sister Dee Dee Harwell Abernathy and husband, Tony of Cameron, TX; her brothers, Joe Harwell of Cameron, TX; Wayne Harwell of Spooner, WI; Franklin Bilbrey and wife, Shara of Baltimore, MD; her brothers-in-law, Billie Ventle of Liberal; Eldon Ventle and wife, Debra of Derby; Gary Ventle of Wichita; a sister-in-law Diana Archambeau and husband, Joe of Winfield; her grandchildren, Jarreth, Rebecca, Sherral, Laban, Noah, Preston, McKenzie, Alanah, Adam, Aiden, Bradley, Alexis, Aubree, Taite, Olivia, Maison, Tayden, Camden, Zack, Serenity, Kacey, Kandice, Billy, Chris, Matthew; 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmy and Michael Harwell, a sister-in-law Alverta Ernzen, and a brother-in-law Jack Ventle.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Private inurnment will take place at the Little River Cemetery in Jones Prairie, Texas at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 P.M. The family will greet friends during this time.
Memorials have been established in Glenda's name for the Cowley County Fire District #2 and for the Dexter Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
