Glenda V. Frame, age 95 of Winfield, KS, a long time Wellington resident, died Tuesday, February 11, 2016, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Glenda V. (Hamm) (Daugherty) Frame was born January 19, 1921, in Peru, KS, to H.L. Hamm and Alma Lea (Houston) Hamm. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1938. During WWII, she worked at Boeing as a "Rosie the Riveter".
She married Jess W. Daugherty on September 20, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1969.
Glenda was a secretary for most of her adult life, and enjoyed several years of traveling upon her retirement. Besides traveling, she was an amazing correspondent and continued to send about 100 Christmas cards until just the last few recent years. She was also known for remembering birthdays, anniversaries and just general letter-writing.
She also utilized her musical gift as "her ministry". Until recently, she would play the piano (totally by ear) and would many times go to multiple nursing homes to "play for the old people" as she'd say, knowing that she was older than most or all of the residents. From its opening in 1960 until just the past two years, she loved going to Silver Dollar City, near Branson, MO, which she often claimed as her very favorite place.
Although baptized as a young adult in the Baptist Church, Glenda was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for most of her adult life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jess W. Daugherty and one brother, Howard L. Hamm.
Survivors include: her son, Gary P. (Edna) Daugherty of Oswego, KS, her daughter, Dixie L. (Daryl) Seibel of Benton, AR, and her brother, Maurice L. (Charlotte) Hamm of Ridgecrest, CA. She leaves three grandchildren: G. Patrick (Lindsey) Daugherty of Wellington, KS, Sherri L. (Ed) Partlow of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Micah J. (Adrienne) Seibel of Tulsa, OK. Her special pride and loves were her six great grandchildren: Parker Daugherty, Chantz Daugherty, Blair Daugherty, Olivia Partlow, Hudson Partlow and Liam Seibel.
At her request, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held later in the spring in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington. Miles Funeral Service in Winfield is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Kansas Eye Bank and Cornea Research Center, to William Newton Memorial Hospital, or to the church or charity of your choice.
