Obituary

Glen R. Trogdon, 97, passed away on January 18, 2021, in the home of his granddaughter in Arkansas City, Kansas.

Glen was born in 1923 to William F. and Lillie M. (Crumm) Trogdon near Anadarko, OK. He had two sisters that are both deceased: Vivian (Trogdon) Hughes of Verden, OK, and Maxine (Trogdon) Harris of Cement, OK. Glen attended rural and later city public schools in the Anadarko area.

Glen was a WWII veteran, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with the Army, 1128th Engineer Combat Group, 5th Armored Division, 88th Cavalry from July 10, 1944, to December 24, 1946. Before his honorable discharge he had fought battles across France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany while driving a Light Tank M24 Chaffee tank. He was involved in three major battles. Glen reported that his pay was $78 per month.

In 1957, Glen moved to Grenola, KS, when he was working in the oil field. Afterwards, he was employed in the maintenance department at Binney & Smith Crayola in Winfield, KS, for 23 years before he retired. On April 17, 1981, Glen married Virginia L. (Howe) Wadleigh. This marriage and a previous marriage instantly made him a stepfather, grandfather and eventually great-grandfather. Virginia preceded Glen in death on May 17, 2020.

During his lifetime, Glen loved hunting for many years and owned several coon hounds. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren fishing at various private locations. He liked horses, rodeos and socializing with local farmers and cowboys. Glen often used his welder to repair farm equipment, do other jobs, and to teach a grandson to weld. He helped his neighbors however he could. His favorite music was southern gospel by the Gaither Vocal Band and Gaither friends. Glen was a father-figure to several young men in the community and a wonderful, loving grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his two sisters. He is survived by his step-children, Donald Sinnett of Lenexa; Brent (Sara) Wadleigh of Arkansas City; Greg (Tammy) Wadleigh of Arkansas City; and Paula (Steve) Hansen of El Dorado; his step-grandchildren: Leah Sinnett; Hannah Sinnett; Robert (Nonette) Wadleigh; Mary (Dan) Chapman; Virginia "Ginny" Wadleigh; Andy (Stephanie) Wadleigh; Amy (Curtis) Jewett; Joe (Courtney) Nitschke; Abi (Chris) Streeter; Rose Hansen; Adam (Bridget) Hansen; Steven Moberg; and Lisa Powers; and his great-grandchildren, Robert Jr. "Toby" Landen, Layne, Anthony "Tony" Lucas, Allyson, Waylon, Kinsley, Kami, Morgan, and Bobby. Glen is also survived by nephews and nieces in Oklahoma: Don Hughes, Jim Hughes, Bill Hughes, Ronnie Harris, Bill Harris, Brenda Henry, Sandy Wilson, and Carolyn Cottrell.
