Obituary

Gladys L. Groom, 95, a long time resident of Cambridge, Kansas passed away Sunday morning June 05, 2011 at Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, Arizona.

Born March 03, 1916 in Acres, Kansas, she was the daughter of Chris and Florence (Wertz) Neff. She was raised and received her education in the Wichita and El Dorado area, graduating from High School in Wichita.

Gladys was united in marriage to Harry Lee Groom on October 24, 1964. The couple resided in Cambridge, where they owned and operated the Stockman's Café for many years. Following retirement, the Grooms moved to Phoenix, Arizona to live near their daughters and family. Mr. Groom preceded her in death on December 15, 1996.

She was a member of the Cambridge Presbyterian Church, and was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an awesome cook, loved to play bingo, and attending all events for her great grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks' baseball team, the Phoenix Suns' basketball team, and watched every football game during the season rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Washington Redskins, and the Arizona Cardinals. She also loved to play cards with her family and friends every chance she had.

Her family includes:
Her daughter: Becky Stone and husband, Steve of Phoenix, AZ;
Her granddaughters: Belinda Witter and husband Paul of Chino Valley, AZ; Teresa McMahon and husband, Jim of Chandler, AZ;
Her grandson: Mark White of Wichita; and
Lots of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her son Earnest White, a daughter Karen White, and her brother Buck Neff.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 25, 2011, at the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

A Memorial has been established in Mrs. Groom's name for the Cambridge Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
