GLADYS L. DENNIS, 92, of Burden, Kansas, went to her heavenly home Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2008 after recently celebrating her 92nd birthday.

Born on December 23, 1916 in rural Newkirk, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of John Fulton and Nora Ethel (Tipton) Graham. She was raised in rural Newkirk and graduated from Newkirk High School in 1934. Gladys later attended the Chillicothe, Missouri Business College.

She was united in marriage on April 3, 1938 to Daniel L. Dennis in Shidler, Oklahoma. The couple made their first home in Kay County, Oklahoma. Gladys was a true business entrepreneur taking part in several business ventures. She owned and operated Dan's Dairy Snack in Burden and was later a cook at the Burden High School. Gladys owned and operated the Dennis Singer Sewing Business in Arkansas City, Kansas and Glady's Gift Shop in Winfield. Mr. Dennis preceded her in death on February 14, 2004.

She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Burden for 55 years where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years. She was actively involved in several groups in the church including the Women's Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School, organizing the church library and the Missions Committee. Gladys had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved spending time with her family and dearly loved planning and attending family reunions. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, quilting, gardening, playing pitch, horses and antique cars.

Her brothers: John Graham of Raton, NM; Israel Tipton Graham of California; and Billy Graham of Cortez, CO;
Her grandchildren: LaFawn Yost, Dawn Harms, Lona Beltz, Steve Lauppe, Jeff Myers, Scott Myers, Tim Myers, Betsy Johnson, Shad Dennis and Cathy Speck;
Her great-grandchildren: Seth and Adrienne Yost, Spenser and Alexis Harms, Lauren Hicks, Josh Beltz, Skylar and Brenden Lauppe, Graham, Emma, Catherine, Stuart, Jake, Kayla and Will Myers, Nicholas Johnson, James Dennis, twins Danny and Madeline Dennis; and Jacob and Isaac Speck; and
Her great-great-grandson: Gage Michael Maggard.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Kerney, Vernal, infant O.B., Forrest, Delmar and Owen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Burden Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday, December 29, 2008. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

Memorials have been established in Glady's name for the First Baptist Church in Burden and the Burden Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
