Obituary

GERALD "GIB" SPENGLER, 81, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Thursday evening, March 12, 2009 at his home.

Born on April 29, 1927 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Herbert H. and Mary L. (Clavin) Spengler. He attended Maple Grove school and later graduated from Winfield High School in 1945. As a young man Gib worked on the family farm and later in the oilfields.

He was united in marriage to Marquita June Overman on May 22, 1948 in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The couple have spent their entire married lives in rural Winfield where he farmed. Gib worked for the Walnut Township and in February of 1971 began employment with the City of Winfield. He was a supervisor at the Water Treatment Plant and retired in June of 1996. Gib continued farming until 2005.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Winfield. His hobbies included his family, woodworking, welding and raising Shorthorn cattle.

His son: Blaine Spengler of Winfield, KS;
His daughters: Marilyn Miller and husband Doug of Winfield, KS; and Elaine Boyer and husband Curtis of Newkirk, OK;
His grandchildren: Molly Weathers and husband Tyson, Kristin Priest and husband Bradley, Sarah Owens and husband Sladden, Heath Spengler and fiance' Brandy Shere, Payton Spengler and wife April, Whitley Spengler, Cody Boyer and Paige Boyer;
His great-grandchildren: Caleb and Abigail Weathers, Corban Priest, Andru and Ethan Owens, and Addisyn and Jacob Spengler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack C. Spengler, his sister, LuWilla Mae, and his grandson Geremy Spengler.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 16, 2009 at Miles Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, March 15, 2009. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., that afternoon.

A memorial has been established in Gib's name for the First Christian Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
