Obituary

Gerald L. Hodges, 78, of Udall, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, February 2, 2015 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield, Kansas.

Born December 5, 1936 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Howard and Rachel (Kingery) Hodges. He was raised and received his education in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School in 1954. He then attended Oklahoma Christian College where he studied Architecture. He then joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. After his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Winfield.

Gerald was united in marriage to Nancy Carol Wise on June 24, 1961 at the First United Methodist Church in Udall, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Winfield for one year before moving to Udall. Gerald began his career in the aircraft industry with Beech Aircraft, and in the early 1960s went to work for Boeing Aircraft. He remained at Boeing for over 30 years, retiring as a tool design supervisor in 1992. In 1982 Gerald and Nancy bought His and Hers Ceramic Shop and relocated it to Udall. After retiring from Boeing, Gerald continued running the ceramic shop until 2011. Mrs. Hodges preceded him in death in 1998.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Udall. He enjoyed ceramics and fishing.

His family includes:
His sons: Steven Hodges and wife, Terry of Des Moines, IA; Bernie Hodges of Udall;
His daughter: LeAnn Esslinger and husband, Mark of Rose Hill;
His sister: Judy Davis of Arizona; and
His grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Steven Hodges both of Des Moines, IA; Nathan and Lindsey Esslinger both of Rose Hill.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Charles Hodges.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 6, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Udall. Interment with Military Committal Honors will follow at Ninnescah Cemetery, south of Udall. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, on Thursday evening, February 5, 2015 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors that evening.

A memorial has been established in Mr. Hodge's name for the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
