GERALD E. "JERRY" WEIGLE, 77, of Burden, Kansas, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2014 at Wesley Rehabilitation Center in Wichita.
Born August 24, 1936 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of George Franklin "Dutch" and Ethel (Orr) Weigle. He was raised in the rural Burden area and attended Burden Schools. Jerry graduated Burden High School with the class of 1954.
Jerry was a career farmer/rancher. He lived on the family farm in the house that his grandfather built in 1895. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Layton on February 16, 1974. Evelyn preceded him in death on August 27, 1980.
Mr. Weigle was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Burden Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed killing weeds and burning trash and cutting wood. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
His family includes:
His son: Eddie Weigle and wife, Stephanie of Burden;
His daughters: Georgana Lawson and husband, David of Burden; Tracy Gillespie of Spiro, OK; and Terry Lemmon and husband, Lonnie of Fort Smith, AR;
His step-children: Kathy Meier of Littleton, CO; Karen Deakins and husband, Jim of Newkirk, OK; and Greg Newland and wife, Julie of Littleton, CO;
His sister: Margaret Saxon of Wichita;
Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren;
His special friend: Shirley; and
His ole trustee Stihl chainsaw that he preferred over his family, since it didn't talk back.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dutch and Ethel and his wives, Evelyn and Loretta.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Masonic Committal Honors will follow at Highland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family suggests memorials be made to the Burden Park Playground Equipment Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
