Obituary

George R. Teachman, 78, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday morning, March 16, 2010 at his home.

Born December 13, 1931 near Salt Fork, Oklahoma, he was the son of Edward H., Sr. and Neva (Cowen) Teachman. He was raised and received his education in Lamont, Oklahoma, graduating from Lamont High School. In 1950 he joined the United State Army where he proudly served his country in the Korean War. While in the Army he was stationed in Louisiana, Japan, and Korea. In 1952 he was honorably discharged.

George was united in marriage to Marilyn Hopkins in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Winfield. In 1952 he went to work for Boeing as a Transportation Driver, where he worked for over 35 years until retiring in 1989.

Mr. Teachman was a member of the Christian Church in Lamont, OK, the Sunflower Masonic Lodge in Wichita, and was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion in Winfield. He enjoyed traveling, antique cars, playing cards, and gardening.

His family includes:

His brothers: Edward H. Teachman, Jr. of Sun City, AZ; Carl O. Teachman of Smithsville, TN; Douglas D. Teachman of Blanchard, OK;
His sisters: Wanda Gard of Smithsville, TN; Twylah Alameda of Hayward, CA; Erdie Zwier of Derby, KS; and
Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents George was preceded in death by his three brothers, Lawrence E., Harold R., Ernest B., and his two sisters, Genev Rochm, and Lora Redding.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 8.

A Memorial has been established in George's name for the Kansas Veterans' Home. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
