George Allen Smith of Winfield, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 surrounded by his family.

George was born August 3, 1928 to Ernest and Mary (Upham) Smith in Chapman, Kansas. He lived in Arkansas until he was 5 and was then raised in Kansas. He graduated from Salina High School and from Brown Mackie School of Business.

George married JoAnn (Pearson) on October 15, 1950 in Salina, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1950 to December 1952 completing his basic training in El Paso, Texas and was sent to Germany to finish his tour.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Grant Pason Smith; his parents, Ernest and Mary Smith; 2 brothers, Carl and Jack; and one sister, Dorothy Kord.

George is survived by:
His wife: JoAnn, of the home;
Four sons: George Randall and his wife Suzanne, Burlington, KS; Michael and his wife, Elgena, Clay Center, KS; Tracy and his wife, Anita, of Oxford, KS; and Scott of Sheridan, WY;
Three daughters: Janet Spoon and husband Gene of Winfield, KS; Jody Smith of Winfield, KS; and Julie Graham and her husband Eric of Broken Arrow, OK.
George is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
In addition, he is survived by one sister Nadine Keener of Bella Vista, AR, one sister-in-law Alma Smith of Solomon, KS and numerous nieces and nephews.

George enjoyed traveling with his family in their motor home after retirement, fishing, rock hunting, watching ballgames, and being a huge fan of the OSU women's basketball team.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 5 to 7 that evening. Per George's wishes, following services at Miles Funeral Home; he will be cremated and burial will take place in Salina, KS at a later date.

A Memorial has been established in George's name for Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
