Obituary

George Simon Parsons, 94, of Burden, Kansas, passed away, Tuesday morning, November 10, 2020 at his home.

Born March 14, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Paul L. and Alberta (Simons) Parsons. He was raised and received his education in Cowley County, Kansas, attending Winfield High School.

George was united in marriage to Clara Peters on July 22, 1944 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. He then joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Cowley County and moved to a farm near Burden, Kansas. In addition to farming his entire life, George worked on the missile bases in Cowley County and in the oil field, first as a rough neck and later as a pumper. He retired from the oil field in 1991 and continued as a fulltime farmer. Mrs. Parsons preceded him in death on March 18, 1970.

He was a member of the VFW post #3544 and American Legion post #10. He enjoyed fishing, riding his four-wheeler, checking on his cattle, and spending time with his grandkids.

His family includes his son Daryl Parsons and wife, Karen of Burden; his grandchildren, Gail Bailey and husband, Bryan of Winfield; Scott Parsons and wife, Lyndsay of Burden; his great grandchildren, Brice Bailey and wife, Shelby of Burden; Daisy Parsons of Burden; Gunnar Parsons of Burden; and a great-great grandson, Darrel Bailey of Burden.

In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by three brothers, Dick Parsons, Jack Parsons, and Paul Parsons, a sister Mary Hoover, and a son Keith Parsons.

Private graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Miles Funeral Service.

A memorial has been established in George's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
