Obituary

GEORGE W. LIERMANN, 90, of Winfield, passed away Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2008, at Cumbernauld Village.

George was born January 15, 1918 at his Grandparents (May) home in Winfield to George H. and Bertha (May) Liermann. He attended Frog Hollow School and graduated from Winfield High School in 1937.

George married Velda Marie Wright on Sunday January 14, 1940 at the United Brethan Church in Winfield after the evening service. It was a cold snowy January night, which made for a long trip home. They were married for 62 years before her death in August of 2002. The couple lived east of Winfield their entire life, farming and ranching.

He was a member of the Tisdale United Methodist Church for over 60 years. He served on the church board in the 1950's. He helped build and lay the rocks on the church addition in the 1950's.

George loved to hunt and fish and spent a lot of time enjoying the outdoors with his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandson.

His family includes:

His grandchildren: Christal Helsel and husband, David of Winfield; Tania Rackleff and husband, Brett of Winfield; George Dwain Liermann and wife, Dawn of Arkansas City; Bonita Liermann and Glen Hankins of Arkansas City; Clint Liermann of Winfield;
His great grandchildren: Shannon Rackleff and Grant Allen, Brett Rackleff, and Tyler Rackleff of Winfield; Casey Liermann, Caleb Liermann, Corbin Liermann, Corey Marquez, and Cassandra Marquez of Arkansas City; Emily Hankins, Kathleen Hankins, and William Hankins of Arkansas City;
His great-great grandson: Canden Allen; and
His four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velda, his parents, and a sister, Edith Liermann.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 10, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Miles Fuenral Service. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 to 6 P.M. The family will greet visitors from 2 to 4 that afternoon.

A Memorial has been established in Mr. Liermann's name for Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and for Cumbernauld Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
