Geneva F. Taylor, 92, of Winfield, Kansas passed away Saturday morning, October 6, 2012 at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Geneva Fern Craven was born on July 5, 1920, in their home near South Haven, Kansas. Her parents were Bennett and Pearl (Troutman) Craven. In the 3rd grade their family moved to rural Geuda Springs where she graduated from Geuda Springs High School in 1939.
On January 21, 1943 she married Leonard Allen Smith at Wellington Court House in Wellington, Kansas. Geneva worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas while Leonard was in the Army. They moved out to a farm near Geuda Springs, Kansas in 1945. Leonard preceded her in death on August 19, 1971. Geneva worked at Oxwell in Wellington, Kansas.
Geneva married Jim Taylor on January 18, 1979. They resided in Belle Plaine, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1989.
Geneva moved to Walnut Towers in Winfield, Kansas in 1991. She began as a Foster Grandparent at Lowell School in 1992 and continued working there until 1997. She moved to Rest Haven Nursing Home on March 22, 2011.
Her hobbies included, embroidery and sewing. She loved to visit and was friends with everyone.
She was preceded in death by one son: Phillip M. Smith; one granddaughter: Rhonda Smith; her brothers: Russell and Neal Craven; and one sister: Dorothy Walton.
She is survived by: one sister: Virginia Swanson of Arkansas City; her son: Bradford K. Smith and wife, Christy of Derby; her daughter-in-law: Bonnie Smith of Geuda Springs; her stepson: Daniel Taylor and wife, Sherra of Belle Plaine; and her eight grandchildren and multiple great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. A private family interment will follow at Corzine Cemetery near South Haven. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, October 9, 2012 from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 7 that evening.
A memorial has been established in Geneva's name for the Millington Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
