Obituary

Gena Belle Havner, 62, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Via Christi, St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Born May 1, 1962 in Wellington, Kansas, she was the daughter of Paul Eugene and Ada Belle (Emberton) Rich. She was raised and received her education in Oxford, Kansas. While in high school she was married to Lonnie Havner. The couple were married at the Baptist Church in Wellington, where they made their first home. The couple later moved to Oxford. To this union two sons were born, the couple later divorced.

Gena was a free spirit that loved riding her Harley. She lived all over the United States including Washington DC, Oregon, Florida, and Washington. She worked several jobs during this time in her life to help sustain her free spirit lifestyle. In 1995 she returned to Kansas and made her home in Winfield.

She married Ken Deckard in the spring of 2014 at the Pecan Grove in Winfield. The couple made their home in Winfield. Mr. Deckard preceded her in death on September 14, 2019.

She worked as a manager at West Village Apartments in Udall for a few years as well as owning and operating a couple of bars in the area. In addition to riding her Harley, Gena enjoyed fishing and camping.

Her family includes her sons, Randy Havner and wife, Jami of Winfield; Jon Havner and wife, Ame of Hutchinson; her sisters, Linda Keady of Winfield; Stephanie Adams of Winfield; her grandchildren, Gage Cook, Kaydence McCreary, Gabriella Havner, Hannah Havner, Hunter Havner, Mackenzie Conklin, Jarred Havner, Mika Karr, Makayla Karr, Taylin Owen, Tierney Havner, and Johanna Havner; and her great grandchildren, Ellie Havner and Reese Jamieson.

In addition to her husband and parents, Gena was preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Wikel and Freda Hotchkin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday August 9, 2024 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Interment will be held at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at a later date. A visitation is scheduled at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 4 to 8. The family will greet visitors from 4 to 7 that evening.

A memorial has been established in Gena's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
