Rev. Gaylene Sue Williams left this life on May7, 2018, after a lengthy battle with cancer and went to live with her Lord and King for all eternity.
Gaylene was born in Wichita, KS, on July 7, 1958, the oldest of 3 children to Verna Jo Ann (Stringer) and David Lee Schott. The first years of her education were in the Wichita school district. She entered the Mulvane school district in the 4th grade and graduated with honors from Mulvane High School in 1976. She attended Mid America Nazarene University from 1976 to 1980 and graduated with honors and a BA in English Education. Gaylene was voted by the professors to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges" her junior year and was on the Dean's List every semester. After graduation, she taught 7th -12th grades in English/Literature in Cedar Vale, KS, for 2 years. Then, she taught 9th -12th grades in Humboldt, KS, for 1 year before moving to Copperas Cove, Texas, to help in the starting of a new Church of the Nazarene.
It was there in Texas that she met and married her husband Greg. While in Texas, Gaylene taught BSEP skills in Math and English through Central Texas College to Ft. Hood soldiers for a year. Since Greg was in the Army, they didn't stay in Texas long before moving to Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Shortly after moving to Missouri, it was discovered that she had a bone tumor in her upper right arm, and that arm was amputated. While she didn't go back to teaching in the public-school system, she stayed active in the Nazarene Church in many capacities as Sunday School teacher, missions teacher, choir member, church treasurer, prayer leader, administrative secretary, and so much more. After moves to Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, back to Colorado, Gaylene and Greg settled in Udall, Kansas. From 2004 to 2009 Gaylene took the ministerial course of studies and was ordained in the Church of the Nazarene as an elder in June of 2009. She was the Associate Pastor at Udall Church of the Nazarene from 2004 until her death.
Gaylene enjoyed Bible study, reading, crafts, lighthouses, creating word search puzzles, her pets, and being with family and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law Sandy. Gaylene is survived by her husband Gregory of the home, two brothers Greg Schott of Mulvane and Kevin Schott (Kim) of Belle Plaine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Udall Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow at Udall Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday evening, May 13, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. at the Udall Church of the Nazarene. The family will greet visitors during that time.
A memorial has been established in Gaylene's name for the Udall Church of the Nazarene. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
