Gay Morgan Meyer, 86, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Winfield Senior Living.
Born February 8, 1934 in her grandmother's home in Udall, Kansas, she was the daughter of Thomas C. and Jesse "Beryl" (Morgan) Daniels. She was raised in Rock, attending elementary school at Green Valley Elementary. She attended Douglass High School graduating in 1952.
Gay was united in marriage to Walter Meyer on February 11, 1954 at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield. The couple made their first home in Winfield, before moving two miles north of Wilmot where they started farming. Gay worked as a bookkeeper at Carl Drennan Motors and a short time at Bodkins Motors. She also waitressed at the Rock Café. She and Walt farmed over 48 years, retiring in 2001. They returned to Winfield following retirement. Walt preceded her in death on December 30, 2015.
Gay was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church. She sat on numerous election boards and was an avid "Days Of Our Lives" viewer. She loved being a farm wife and loved farm animals. She enjoyed hatching chickens and raising piglets.
Gay's family includes her daughter Janet Magnusson and husband, Karl of Winfield; her son Roger Meyer and wife, Icel of Winfield; her brother S.J. "Jess" Daniels and wife, Joyce of Augusta; her sister Ann Young and husband, Larry of Wichita; her grandchildren, Kristina Scott and husband, Andy of Goddard; Kelly Barrett and husband, Sam of Emporia; Jacob Magnusson of Milwaukee, WI; Robbie and Rance Meyer of Winfield; and her great grandchildren, Karaline and Cody Scott of Goddard; and Cora and Lucille Barrett of Emporia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gay was preceded in death by a great grandson Leo Barrett, a brother J.D. Daniels, and a sister TomElla Polk.
Private graveside services will be held at Wilmot Cemetery. A visitation is scheduled at Miles Funeral Service on Friday, September 11, 2020 from 4 to 7 P.M. The family requests friends practice social distancing and wear masks.
A memorial has been established in Gay's name for Prairie View United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
