GARY LEE SANDERS, 59, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Tuesday evening, June 11, 2013 at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita.

Born on April 23, 1954 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Stephen Stanley and Dorothy Marie (Bangs) Sanders. He was raised and received his education in Winfield.

He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from February 1, 1973 until March 23, 1980. Following his honorable discharge Gary returned to Winfield and began employment at the Winfield State Hospital, working in the nursing department.

His family includes:
His daughter: Katherine Boucher and husband Phillip of Rose Hill, KS;
His brothers: Steven Sanders of Winfield, KS; and Billy Sanders of Ponca City, OK;
His mother: Dorothy Stowell of Ponca City, OK;
His sisters: Mary Randall and husband Terry of Derby, KS; Dorothy Tovar and husband George of Dodge City; Mabel Riff and husband Herb of Blackwell, OK; and
His grandchildren: Brycen, Aiden and Ethan Boucher.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Sanders; his brother Raymond Sanders; and his sister Donna Worthington.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, June 13, 2013. The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M., that evening.

A memorial has been established to help defray funeral expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
