Gary Jerome Patterson, 77, of Dexter, Kansas passed away Wednesday November 21, 2012 at his home.
Born October 15, 1935 in Winfield, Kansas, he was the son of Frank J. and Frances J. (Turner) Patterson. He was raised and received his education in Winfield. After school Gary joined the United States Marine Corp. He was stationed in San Diego, California during basic training and later served on the USS Los Angeles. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marines, he moved to Nebraska where he worked on the missile sights.
In the 1970's Gary returned to the Winfield area where he began working as a diesel mechanic for D and D Farm Equipment. He remained there for over 20 years until retiring in 1996. In 1981 Gary was united in marriage to Joan Knoble. The couple made their home on the Radcliff Ranch near Dexter.
He was a member of the Dexter Christian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed working on small engines, fishing with his wife Joan, and visiting with people via his ham radio.

His daughters: Pamela Hoyt and husband, Bob of Rose Hill; Patty Hafenstein and husband, Bruce of Burden;
His brother: Ronn Patterson and wife, Judy of Winfield;
His grandchildren: Misty, Katie, Jenny, Amber, Ashley, Alexis, Sydney, and Tyler;
His great grandchildren: Rece, Treighton, and Brayden; and
His numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Gary was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Patterson, his sister, Sue Thomas, and a son, Kelly Patterson.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dexter Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established in Mr. Patterson's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
