GARFIELD BETHEL, 77, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday evening, February 14, 2014 in Winfield.
Born March 27, 1936 in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of Durwood F. and Dorothy E. (Weede) Bethel. He was raised and educated in Wichita. Gar attended and graduated Wichita State University, Pittsburg State University and Oklahoma State University.
He worked as an English Professor for several schools, including Southwestern College which he retired from. He enjoyed writing poetry and watching sports.
His family includes:
His sisters: Kathy James and husband, Joel; and Kelly Dopson and husband, Tom all of Georgia;
His cousin: Dick Weede of Virginia;
His step-mother: Frances Bethel of Georgia;
His long-time caregivers and special friends: David and Amanda Lazelle, Montana Howard-Cox, Roland Cox, Piper Lazelle and Maddox Lazelle; and
Many nieces and nephews.
Gar was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will hold a celebration of his life on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 5:30 P.M. at PC's Saloon in Winfield. Come for poetry, drinks and music.
A Memorial has been established in Garfield's name for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
