Frankie Isabelle Fulsom, 92, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Sunday morning, June 25, 2023, at her home.
Born June 15, 1931, in Grainola, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Straud Franklin and Alice Marie (Helms) Carlisle. She was raised and received her education in the Foraker and Grainola communities, graduating from Grainola High School in 1949.
Frankie was united in marriage to Paul James Fulsom on September 16, 1948, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Foraker before moving to Grainola, OK where they started a cattle herd of their own and in 1957 they moved to Maple City. Frankie's time was spent taking care of the farm and the family's children.
In August of 1960, they bought their farm on Otter Creek in rural Cedar Vale, Kansas. In 1964, Paul and Frankie started their own company, Paul J. Fulsom, Inc., fencing and seeding along state highways. The couple later moved to Cedar Vale and acquired Holman Motel. In addition to farming and helping Paul run the construction business, Frankie also ran the motel. In 1979, the family moved to their home northeast of Cedar Vale. Paul preceded her in death on November 20, 2013.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale, where she served as Sunday School Teacher. She was a very caring person, giving of her time and talents to those in need. In her limited free time, she enjoyed playing Pitch with her husband and friends in the Cloverdale Pitch Club, and attending Major League Baseball games.
Her family includes her children, Patti Fulsom and husband, Daryl Painter; Pamela Juul and husband, Sam; Paul Jay Fulsom; Peggy McAdam; and Priscilla Melton and husband, Clay all of Cedar Vale; Perry Fulsom of Grenola; and Penny Weaver of Winfield; her sister Arley Bennett and husband, Lonnie of Wellington; and her 28 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frankie was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Carla Fulsom, a granddaughter Rachel Fulsom, a grandson Lucas Weaver, a sister Hazel Pontious, and two brothers Bill Carlisle and John Carlisle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday June 30, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale. Interment will follow at the Cedar Vale Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. The family will greet visitors that evening. Services will be held under the direction of Miles Funeral Service in Winfield.
A memorial has been established in Frankie's name for First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
